ABOUT ADVENTURES UNBOUND
Adventures Unbound (AU) mission is to offer supervised travel for adults with intellectual and physical disabilities to increase independence and improve quality of life while providing respite for families and caregivers.
Adventures Unbound is located in Fort Worth, Texas. Travel opportunities feature group travel, day trips and overnight stays in and around Texas. Adventures Unbound allows parents, guardians, and caregivers to send adults with disabilities they care for on safe, fun & exciting trips. Every traveler receives the supervision and the care that they need from trained caregivers. Older teens and adults with disabilities are able to go on group outings in the community and overnight trips independently of their parents and/or caregivers. We provide a chance for adults with disabilities to see new places and experience new things in a safe manner.
Trained volunteers accompany travelers with disabilities on every trip with a ratio of 1 volunteer: 3 travelers. Volunteers offer assistance with, but not limited to general supervision, personal care, feeding, money management and participation during every trip.
Adventures Unbound LLC was created in 2015 by Carrie Boggess, a certified Recreation Therapist, and travel agent. Carrie grew up with two uncles with the disabilities Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. Carrie's family inspired and fueled her passion for working with people with disabilities. After taking her uncle with Cerebral Palsy on a cruise in 2013, Carrie began thinking about the difficulties and possibilities of traveling with people with disabilities. That is how the idea of Adventures Unbound began.
Adventures Unbound has served individuals with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Spina Bifida, Down syndrome, CHARGE Syndrome, various levels of intellectual disabilities, vision impairment, hearing loss, and speech disorders. AU has traveled to various places around Dallas- Fort Worth, San Antonio and throughout Oklahoma.
In January 2018, Carrie transformed Adventures Unbound into a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with the goal to offer more services to older teens and adults with disabilities. Carrie is now the President/CEO and works with a board of directors to offer safe new experiences for individuals with disabilities through travel.
